NHTSA recommends pre-school age children transported in school buses always be transported in properly secured child safety restraint systems. The proper installation of child safety restraint systems requires that a school bus vehicle seat have seat belts or other means of securing the child safety restraint systems to the bus seat.
When pre-school age children are transported in a school bus, NHTSA recommends:
Each child is:
Transported in a child safety restraint system that is selected based on the child’s weight and age
- Properly secured
- Correctly installed
