Intended Audience: School Transportation Personnel, Special Education Personnel and CPS Technicians
The presentation will provide information on the appropriate child safety restraint systems for all children who ride the school bus. Further discussion will illustrate how these safety devices enhance the protection provided by compartmentalization. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. Charlie Vits has played a significant role in developing school bus seats with lap and shoulder belts as well as add-on, portable child restraints for school buses. He has contributed to industry training materials, including the Child Passenger Safety Restraint Systems on School Buses National Training and the Safe Ride News School Bus Safety Handbook.
Objectives:
- Discuss Pennsylvania laws and NHTSA recommendations concerning child passenger safety during school transportation.
- Discuss transporting infants, toddlers and pre-school age children in school buses and school vehicles.
- Describe the child restraint selection options for safe school transportation.
