Description:

Medical Professionals and CPSTs recognize the gap between the goal and the reality of the decisions that EMS providers face daily in safely transporting children in ground ambulances. Children are not just small adults, and they require specialized equipment to be safely transported in an
ambulance. This webinar provides a combination of didactic and practical components of the safe and effective transportation of children in EMS / Prehospital setting.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define child passenger safety issues as they relate to ground ambulance transport.
  • Explain the different types of child seats available for passenger vehicles and identify which can be used in an ambulance and possible instillation location.
  • Identify different safe transport devices and restraint systems designed for ambulance use and demonstrate proper use.
  • Apply the NHTSA Working Group 5 scenario-based guidelines to scenarios with appropriate methods to secure children during safe transport.
