Recalls

Nuna Baby Essentials, Inc. (Nuna) is recalling certain RAVA child seats with a plastic harness adjuster button, manufactured between July 16, 2016 and October 25, 2023. Debris may enter the front harness adjuster and cause the mechanism to fail, resulting in a loose harness.

Recall Information

Nuna Baby Essentials, Inc. (Nuna) is recalling certain Rava child seats with a plastic harness adjuster button, manufactured between July 16, 2016 and October 25, 2023. The recall encompasses RAVA car seats with a plastic harness adjuster button, not the models that have a fabric covering the harness adjuster area. Debris may enter the front harness adjuster and cause the mechanism to fail, resulting in a loose harness. The defect is a result of debris entering the area where the front adjuster button is located. The debris may cause the teeth of the adjuster mechanism to no longer properly clamp onto the adjuster strap, resulting in the harness no longer remaining tight. A loose harness may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. There are no injuries or fatalities reported in connection with this issue.

CONSEQUENCE:

In the event of a crash, the harness may not restrain the child, increasing their risk of injury. Caregivers are encouraged to check for harness tightness when securing the child in the car seat. If your car seat’s harness is functioning properly and securing the occupant consistent with the existing instruction manual and labels, you may continue to use the car seat as directed until you receive the remedy kit.

REMEDY:

  • Nuna will provide consumers with a free remedy kit. The remedy kit consists of:
    • a new seat pad,
    • instructions for properly cleaning the harness adjuster area and installing the new pad,
    • a screwdriver to remove and then replace the plastic cover that is located over the harness adjuster, and
    • a plastic brush with stiff bristles and a flat end to clean the harness adjuster’s teeth to clear any debris from the affected area.
  • The new seat pad design will cover the harness adjuster area and help prevent debris from entering the harness adjuster mechanism.

Consumers who have registered an affected RAVA will receive two letters from Nuna by mail. The first letter will notify them of the recall, prompt them to confirm status, and provide instructions on how they can receive a new pad and cleaning kit. It will also show caregivers how to test the car seat to ensure the harness is working properly. The second letter will notify owners when the seat pad and cleaning kit are available.
