Child Passenger Safety Week 2018

“Safe Families Buckle Up”

Child Passenger Safety Week, September 23-29, 2018 raises awareness of the importance of children being correctly secured in the appropriate car seat or seat belt for a child’s age, weight, height, and developmental needs. The campaign is dedicated to helping parents and caregivers make sure their children ride as safely as possible – every trip, every time. Each day, too many children are secured in the wrong car seats, ride in car seats that have been installed incorrectly, or ride completely unbuckled. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children. In 2016, on average, nearly two (2) children were killed every day while riding in cars, SUVs, pickup trucks and vans. Car seats, booster seats and seat belts make a significant difference during a crash.

Child Passenger Safety Week 2018 Planner

Child Passenger Safety Week 2018 Planner: This resource has child passenger safety information to use as you plan and promote your community activity. The planner provides child safety seat and seat belt statistics, a sample press release, best practice child passenger safety messages based on the “Five Steps for Correct Use”, educational resources, and a synopsis of Pennsylvania’s Occupant Protection law addressing child passengers. The final page has information registering your community car seat check event so it will be included in the statewide list of events submitted to PennDOT and NHTSA. All submitted events will be posted on the NHSTA and TIPP website.

Register your Child Passenger Safety Week 2018 event online!

Please join Pennsylvania in observing Child Passenger Safety Week 2018. Register your car seat check event scheduled during the week of September 23rd – 29th. Registered car seat check events will be shared and advertised through media releases and posted on the NHTSA and PA TIPP websites. Community events can be registered by completing the registration form found on the last page of the Child Passenger Safety Week 2018 Planner or online through the link below. TIPP does not need to be involved in the community car seat check events; we are merely compiling a list of all events to share with PennDOT, NHTSA and statewide community partners.
