Statement from Dorel Juvenile Group:
Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have issued a voluntary recall involving certain Safety 1st rear-facing infant child restraints. The models affected are IC123 FSM Comfy Carry Infant Child Restraint and IC124 FSM OnBoard 35 Infant Child Restraint manufactured from May 1, 2011 through April 25, 2012. These infant carriers were sold via institutional accounts and did not include a base with the lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH).
As you are aware it is acceptable for infant carriers to be installed without a base, using only the auto seat belt. However, this recall is being conducted out of an abundance of caution, as proper and safe installation can be achieved without LATCH but permanently attached LATCH connectors are required to give consumers the option. We have not received any claims or injuries associated with this issue.
DJG will contact all registered owners of the specified models and provide them with information on how to obtain a free infant base with LATCH. Distribution programs or other institutional accounts may visit our website at www.djgusa.com and click on the safety notice button at the top right hand corner of the page to determine if any of their infant child restraints are affected by this recall. Until consumers receive their free bases with LATCH they should continue to use their infant child restraints with the auto seat belt, as described in the instruction manual.
DJG sincerely regrets any inconvenience this situation may have caused you.
