Each year, the Kansas State Department of Education undertakes a National School Bus Loading and Unloading Survey by compiling data from all 50 states to provide an account of children, which ride school buses, and are killed by either their own school bus or a passing motorist. The most recent results, for 2011-2012, reveal that nine children were killed in School Bus related accidents nationwide. One of those was in Pennsylvania. The survey also examines numerous factors involved in these fatalities, such as road conditions, weather, time of day, etc. The 2011-2012 National School Bus Loading and Unloading Survey is published at this link.
